Beautiful park. We spent the night in a cabin, which had air conditioning. The bathroom and showers were clean. The lake is beautiful. A wonderful time. Staff very helpful. Mosquitos troublesome at night. Laura Ingalls Wilder used to come to this park with her soon to be husband Alphonso Wilder. Love South Dakota parks.
The trees have really filled out in the last years. The tent only area is still low on mature trees and shade. Cabins are in a nice location.
We were recommended Lake Thompson by the staff at the Laura Ingalls homestead when their RV sites were full. Great spot. Lots of beach facing campsites, grass, playground, fishing, volleyball. Electric hook ups and pump out station. Would come back!

Gorgeous lake and park! Would be great for sailing and kayaking. Probably not the best for big boats, as the water is fairly shallow.
